The answer from the German Embassy

I sent an e-mail to German Embassy to ask how many students go to their school in Germany.

Then, I received the answer mail 2 days ago. It introduced some useful websites what I wanted.

How many student go to school in Japan?

This website will show the answer. The data is not newest one, but it is enough to research the number of students going to school in Japan.

Next, I think I have to find some information about German students going to their school.
Then, what I have to do is to send an e-mail to German Embassy about it. The preparation will be very helpful for my sotsuron.

I think it is useful at a glance because this has information more about school vacation that I had not found since now.

According to the fact that German school rules are different from each state, I will find the kinds of vacations and the terms.

A book on German Education


I found this yesterday. It has almost all of information on German Education system and the history.

I am sure that it helps me, but it also has so professional contents that I will choose and arrange them because the purpose of my sotsuron is not only the whole German education but also the information education.

Therefore what I want to know is the basic system, so now I begin to read.

About German education system -1-

-The Affairs of some foreign schools-

This time, I introduce about some detail about German and other countries' education system.
Moreover, there are many details about international schools.
This web is written in Japanese, but the contents are very useful and rich, so I'm sure they will help you.

These following sentences are like memos from the web page.

-The period of compulsory education:
6 ~ 18 years (From First grade student to Twelve grade student)
-Before the compulsory education:
Children can go to Krippe (nursery school) and Kindergarten. (Not mandatory)
The rate of entering there (All Germany):
*Krippe = 36.3%
*Kindergarten = about 90%


-School usually starts on August 1 and finish on July 31.
German school has two terms, Autumn Semester (A.S.) and Spring semester (S.S.)
A.S.: From August 1 to January 31
S.S.: From February 1 to July 31

-German education system is different from each states
Because Germany is federate country.
But there are some common points. (Examples in Berlin)
*Children from 6-9 years must go to school. (Compulsory education)
*After the primary education, children go to secondary school.
(*There are three kinds of secondary school. )
*People who passed Abitur (kinds of qualification for admission to university).
*Public school (except an university) doesn't press any money(except textbooks).

-The compulsory education sysetm and the rate of entering school in Berlin
Basic school: Age (6~12), [First grade to Sixth grade], the rate: 99%
*Gymnasium: Age (12~16), [Seventh grade to tenth grade], the rate : 100%


*Gymnasium is devided into 4 kinds of school:
Reference (Web site) : German Education system (Written in Japanese)
[Gymnasium]: It is the (usually eight-year) school for students to take Abitur.
[Realschule]: It is a four-year or six-year school following Basic school. The school is for students to enter a High technical school.
[Hauptschule]: It is a self-centered education agency following Basic school.
[Intergrierte Gesamtschule]: It is a school education center coordinating upper three kinds of schools.
